ABSTRACT

When looking into the literary criticism in contemporary China, theorists and critics have found that the development of literary criticism is closed related to the popularization of Marxism and to the collisions and struggles of Marxist theories against other theories of literature and art, such as disputes about truth and fallacy, leftism and rightism, empiricism and dogmatism as well as eastern tradition and Western new thoughts. Literary criticism has always played an important role in literature development. Theoretically, it discusses the law of literature and art and evaluates writers, works and literary phenomena from different value orientations so as to help writers and readers achieve a deeper understanding of literature and make literature become more influential in the society. The contemporary literary criticism can be divided into normal criticism and non-normal criticism. It was inevitable that historical and profound changes would occur in the economic foundation, superstructure and ideology of a new society.
