ABSTRACT

One of the techniques used in concept analysis is to describe exemplar cases. In an exemplar case one can explore a nuance of the concept, adding detail and exploring themes in more depth. Hopefully in a way that makes the concepts seem more real, and more relevant to the practice of children's nursing, in this case. The point of these cases is not to describe all the nursing care in great detail, but to discuss how each case reveals and relates to aspects of the pragmatic children's nursing theory as set out in this book. In a sense they are composites drawn from over 20 years of practice as a children's nurse, and from over a decade of teaching children's nursing. One of the challenges of such fictional accounts is that it is impossible to provide the degree of data which we as humans absorb from our empirical experience of events.
