ABSTRACT

Post-diagnostic support is the phase in the dementia journey when a diagnosis has been given and the person living with dementia and their family members are beginning to adjust to what this might mean for their lives. Chapter 3 focuses on the post-diagnostic support needs of people living with dementia. There are four areas that are discussed in this chapter: (1) getting out and about independently; (2) opportunities to engage with other people living with dementia; (3) keeping physically active; and (4) advance care planning. This chapter concludes with the personal account of the post-diagnostic support experience of a person living with dementia and clearly demonstrates that providing support after diagnosis is key to being able to live well with dementia.
