ABSTRACT

This chapter contains activities on environmental issues such as the destruction of the rainforest, climate change, pollution, recycling and the growing of genetically modified crops. There are also activities which explore the environmental consequences of building a new reservoir and a new incinerator. The chapter increases pupils' knowledge of the causes and effects of air pollution. It investigates adults' attitudes towards air pollution by encouraging the children to draw up a questionnaire to survey adults' attitudes towards air pollution. The chapter also increases the children's awareness of air pollution issues by asking groups to imagine they have been asked to participate in a campaign to make people more aware of the causes and effects of air pollution. It provides awareness of what individuals and families can do to help to stop climate change. The chapter shows the issues that may arise when a new development is planned and the advantages of recycling.
