ABSTRACT
It is important to imagine practical strategies for a more tradition-oriented flavour of global civil society to gain ground. This takes in examples from many countries, including the author’s own interviews with globally minded Islamists and other activists in the Middle East during the Arab Spring. It suggests how such a strategy might play out on the ground over the next generation or two. And it hints at how this trajectory might connect with a pluralistic vision of the world’s political institutions.
