ABSTRACT

The shifting global power balance is bound up with debates over the world’s political future. Deep cosmopolitanism implies a vision of global political integration quite unlike either EU-style liberalism or the ambitions of rising powers such as China. This section probes more deeply into the logic of liberal cosmopolitanism and its limits. It also assesses where different political and social movements around the world, such as the Islamists, sit in relation to a potential deep cosmopolitan revival.
