ABSTRACT

Alexey Slapovsky is one of the fi nest contemporary Russian writers. Born in the province of Saratov, he now lives in Moscow and has many prestigious awards to his name. His works have been translated into many languages and in 1994 Slapovsky’s play My Little Cherry Orchard won fi rst prize in the European Drama Award. The writer started his literary career in the 1980s as a dramatist, but now combines writing prose with writing TV and fi lm scripts. Though Slapovsky is infl uenced by A. Chekhov and D. Kharms, he has his own distinctive style, and his themes are both very ‘Russian’ and at the same time universal, resonating with all readers from any time or place.
