ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 provides the core arguments and discussions which underpin the content of this book. The chapter content is organised around the question ‘How are we to coach?’, which is a modified version of the popular philosophical question ‘How are we to live?’. Specifically, it considers: what does it mean to be a coach? (ontology); what do coaches value? (axiology); how do coaches arrive at and justify their moral actions? (ethics); what is coaching knowledge? (epistemology); and, what is it like to be a coach? (phenomenology).
