ABSTRACT
Chapter 2 tells an interesting story of how modern-day programming came to be. The story begins in the late 1950s, and uses milestones to explain how and why programming became such an important part of the design process. Granted, in the first paragraph of the story, a drastic – but necessary – leap is made from the Industrial Revolution to the late 1950s, because it is the late 1950s that marks what many consider to be the modern era of programming.
The story is based largely on architecture literature, but it’s reasonable to assume that interior designers were writing their own programming story at about the same time. Unfortunately, there just isn’t a lot of published information about the evolution of modern-day interior design programming. At any rate, the story is easy to read, informative, and essential for a proper appreciation and understanding of modern-day programming.
