ABSTRACT

When I set out to write this book, my main objective was to offer interior design students an alternative method for programming interior environments. I wanted my model to be different than other interior design programming models though; otherwise, what would be the point? The result of my efforts is the Student Programming Model (SPM). The model consists of four components: methods, phases, topics, and products. The five phases – collection, analysis, synthesis, evaluation and revision, and communication – are the backbone of the model; they dictate the topics and methods needed to generate the desired product for each phase.
