Physical changes may make it more dicult to carry out a crime. is diculty can result in lower payo in relationship to the eort. Another potential impact is that the risk of being seen and caught while committing an oense may be enhanced. Finally, the physical design changes may prompt residents to alter their behavior in ways that make crime more dicult to commit. is chapter introduces and explains various physical design approaches for combating and preventing crime, examines the impact these actions have on crime, and assesses the potential of these approaches.
