Introduction

This book began life as a series of introductory lectures on Marx delivered to a class of undergraduate Sociology and Applied Social Studies students at the Polytechnic of North London. Thus, when I decided to convert these lectures into a single manuscript I at first imagined that I would simply write an introductory textbook on Marx.
