ABSTRACT

The Wannabe Test Market There’s an Internet market for entertainment products for the wannabe amateurs. Nothing wrong with it except for two little, tiny things: there is often no money in it and unless you create a great buzz, the established industry isn’t interested in your products or career. In other words, it’s a great place to take your shot to learn what works and fails in your computer-based recordings and videos posted on SoundCloud and YouTube. However, consumers are pretty darn smart as they’ve spent hours and hours looking for something great, and guess what-yours usually isn’t it. But it’s a great place to learn to thrive on rejection. Which is what usually happens when you start pitching “material” to industry executives anyway. And now that the technology (Pro Tools) and distribution (Internet) exist where anyone can create and deliver creative works to the planet, the rules of the game have forever changed.
