ABSTRACT

As the world gets increasingly linked through health, environment, economy, education, social structures and political stability, building the local-technical-global links will become increasingly important to mitigating the spread of global problems or expanding the spread of global possibilities. A new theory began to be formed in the 1990s and early 2000s.The theory has had several names since it first took hold, "new growth theory", "knowledge economics", and its initial title "endogenous technological change" to name a few. Romer's introduction of the value of ideas was built on the existing definition of economic growth-that one could add up the value of various inputs and calculate how these inputs created economic growth. In one case the knowledge was built locally, in another it was built using both global under standings and local knowledge. It is the knowledge about local herbs or medical treatments or even agricultural techniques that can be adapted within a global framework.
