ABSTRACT

The realities of the industrial revolution and subsequent rebuilding of Europe made it clear that people needed an education to take advantage of industry. It is tempting to view education through these industrial lenses. In order to fuel the labor for industry, many people needed an education. As people join the "modern world", the nature of that world changes and with it the lives of all participants, rich and poor. The problem for Korea is that, while it has perfected the means to have children master the knowledge needed to score well in an exam, it has, in the process, given up the focus of the other skills that made Lotus Notes so successful-innovation around one's environment and collective learning. Because mass education derived from an industrial need, still tend to think of it as driven by industry. The opportunities that technology has created along with globally linked systems are changing the nature of education.
