ABSTRACT

The expectation for most two-dimensional art pieces is that the frame is fully filled, whether that is based on applying paint to the last square inch of a canvas or filling the frame with photographic information. Levesque in her photographs found this absence of information, the absence of the "full' picture enticing and has used it to great effect. Levesque may be trying to show people that much of the information they believe is in fact an illusion; a game they play with themselves as much as one she plays with her audience. This is an audacious reminder that what they see is not real. Since people mostly live in a constructed reality, their sense of it can be fragile and people messing around with it are not always thanked for their pointed reminders. The shape of the fence resembles that of a large fish. The dense mesh is reminiscent of scales.
