ABSTRACT
This is an introduction to a translation of a commentary on an introduction. It is an introduction to an English translation of a French commentary written about a German text that itself is an introduction of sorts, since it prefaces the German author’s own translation of a French text, Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du mal. From the start, then, we find ourselves in a hall of mirrors.
