ABSTRACT

Which came first, the artist or the activist? The media-maker or the movement builder? The creator or the change agent? Some of us will say we’re “all of the above.” Or a blend. Or that it might depend on the day of the week. I have pals who are all about impact and see media as a means to an end. Others have cultural expression in their blood and feel it’s a bonus when a project also makes a difference. Some float between these categories. Or refuse to be labeled at all. This book is for all of us—anyone who wants to spark media for social change.

In Making Waves: A Guide to Cultural Strategy, The Culture Group asserts that it’s often our artists who are brave enough to challenge the status quo. They are essential to the fabric of our society because their voices are unique and their work inspirational.
