ABSTRACT

This book discusses on the evolutionary development of various theories of imperialism and examines whether one might be moving towards the construction of platform imperialism. It focuses on asymmetrical relationship of interdependence in platform technologies and political culture between the west, primarily the US, and many developing countries, including two great powers both nation-states and transnational corporations as Lenin analyzed. The book aims to determine the primary role of platforms in the networked global society and to discuss whether platform politics is useful for explaining the contemporary power relations and inequality between the US and non-Western countries. The book analyzes political culture, including both intellectual property rights and the current debates on the global digital divide, which becomes enlarged due in large part to asymmetrical growth and use of platform technologies. The book explores the ways in which symbolic hegemony influences the intensification of the global digital divide, which has resulted in the formation of platform imperialism platform imperialism.
