ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses on new perspectives in the existing body of knowledge on the issue of the global digital divide by discussing its significant pertinence to digital platforms. To begin with, the global digital divide, in terms of access to and use of the Internet between developed and developing countries, has continued over the last decade, although it is reduced in several countries. It focuses to provide new perspectives on the global digital divide debates in the social media era. The task was to espouse global digital divide discourse in understanding the complexity and nuances of several variances that have been newly identified. Since the inception of the discussion of the digital divide, the global digital divide has been primarily associated with the disparities in economic growth among nations, although there are several significant areas, such as political and cultural realms.
