ABSTRACT

This chapter shows a clear vision for the house and the type of living space that she believed would appeal to contemporary buyers. Hampton House Developments was a joint venture between Norman Barker, a businessman with a keen entrepreneurial spirit, and Charlotte Parker, a potter and interior designer who had a flair for marketing and good media contacts. An article on Hampton House that appeared in The Times newspaper criticised the terrace, noting that because it was overhung by the first floor it not only received little sun, but also restricted light to part of the ground floor. Hampton House was a highly commercialised project from start to finish. In addition to plans and drawings, the promotional brochure for Hampton House Developments itemised all of the fittings, furniture, loose furnishings and decorative objects that were displayed within it, along with the name of each supplier.
