ABSTRACT

More children are being referred for the evaluation and treatment of Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms. While ADHD is one of the most commonly diagnosed childhood mental health disorders, it is also very controversial. Many clinicians argue that ADHD behaviours are just the extreme end of normal preschool behaviour. Children with ADHD have more difficulty concentrating than their peers. Children with inattentive ADHD will need close supervision to get things done. For example, when asked to get dressed, children with ADHD may find a large number of distraction activities. Children with ADHD will often act on a whim or as a result of the smallest encouragement from another child. Children with ADHD may also want to touch everything and everyone. Children with a diagnosis of ADHD may be more likely to retain some overflow movements, demonstrating an inefficiency of the motor networks in the brain.
