ABSTRACT
In some cases, we might replicate a study exactly as it was done before. In most cases, however, we make adjustments to previous research that we think will improve our understanding of the topic we are studying. This could involve changing the sample, adding new variables, adjusting measurement approaches, trying alternative analytical approaches, or making many other changes to the design and research process. Just like a bread recipe, existing research clearly indicates the “ingredients” and the process that produced the results, allowing for perfect replication but also tweaks and adjustments. And, like baking bread, research takes practice, patience, and trial and error to find out what works best.
