ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the way in which surveillance and privacy are affected in online spaces and analyses the research findings to date. It suggests that the concepts and practices associated with privacy have become increasingly complex, and that this remains an area that many users of social networking sites still find troublesome. Furthermore, it introduces some questions about what types of ethics need to be considered in relation to being digitally tethered.
