ABSTRACT

This chapter begins to explore generational differences, it is important not to treat any generational profiles simply as stereotypes. It states that different generations may make better pairings in the workplace. Most of the debate about multigenerations in the workplace centers on the difference in the life stage development. Since the workplace is not a place that can be separated into right and wrong, it is important that current work values align with current work conditions. Younger generation workers are perceived to have higher levels of narcissism, which results in higher levels of performance expectations in the workplace. If flexible schedules are offered to some workers, it might be in the best interest of managers to offer them to everyone in that particular worker classification. The chapter explains that workplace policies for Generation Xers include work flexibility and work-life balance, they will not sacrifice personal or family-related goals for their careers.
