ABSTRACT

Undergraduate education serves as a way to expose students early on to the needs of public and nonprofit administration, and it prepares students going into graduate work in the field. Moving beyond public education, some schools have opted to offer undergraduate degrees in public service. Students of all generations will seek service projects and out-of-class experiences to help merge theory and practice. Public service programs can set themselves apart by making service projects a main part of students curricula and by encouraging their faculty to include them in their course development. Online education providing many unique opportunities for masters of public administration (MPA) programs. Focusing on programs that expand opportunities to volunteer and foster community engagement are just the kinds of programs undergraduate education in public service and public administration try to infuse into students curriculums.
