ABSTRACT

The Internet has become part of everyday life. What people do, how people interact, who people share their photographs and video with, even what people say, has all become tied up with the social media that the Internet has made possible. The dissemination of information to the public is no longer solely the domain of legacy media such as print publications. These organizations have had to learn to harness, and adapt to the ever-increasing reach and influence of social media, a task that has fallen to editors, sports reporters, local reporters, photographers, and other staffers. Life and communication in the digital space are under constant redesign; the related media are constantly evolving as well. The digital communicator needs to stay abreast of these new developments, as well as master the existing ones, for social media are a powerful way of both telling and spreading the word about stories.
