ABSTRACT

The assessment of pupils with autism can be difficult and stressful for all concerned. However, assessment in some format will be considered necessary to show progress to parents, governors and bodies such as ofsted. Formative assessment will also be required to inform and facilitate learning by identifying personalised learning goals and developing appropriate activities to meet these goals. The pupil may not be motivated and see the point of making any effort, therefore testing may not always give a true reflection of the pupils ability. The Department for Education (DfE) 2014 Key Stage 1 assessment and reporting arrangements state that: Any pupil below level 1 does not have to do the tests. A pupil above this but with Special Education Needs (SEN) who cannot access the tests does not have to do them. Assessment and reporting arrangements Key Stage 2, give some guidelines for Key Stage 2 SATs testing.
