ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how the technology can be a benefit to pupils in a variety of ways. Technology reduces the need for social or verbal interaction. A number of changes can be made to the standard computer system to make it easier to use. Information can be found on the Ability Net website that explains how to make changes to the mouse, keyboard and display options. A tablet computer also provides a light, easily accessed option. Word processors allow pupils to carry out a project, make mistakes and correct them without stress. Graphics and simple drawing programs overcome difficulties with fine motor skills. Playing games programs with a peer gives an opportunity to show their skills and build relationships with others through a common interest. Software resources can help with the understanding of body language and help to teach social skills.
