ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses Homeschool liaison. There are a number of suggestions that may help to foster good homeschool partnerships: Inform parents when it is decided to provide a pupil with Special Education Needs (SEN) support. The teacher and the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) should agree in consultation with the parent and the pupil the interventions and support to be put in place, as well as the expected impact on progress, development or behaviour, along with a clear date for review. Ensure that parents and young people are actively supported in contributing to assessments, planning and reviewing Education, Health Care plans. Ensure parents are informed of visits from other professionals, e.g. educational psychologist, speech and language therapist, and receive any relevant reports. Use a home school diary to allow school and home to create a dialogue about the Childs home and school life, which will overcome restricted language skills.
