ABSTRACT

Pupils should be supported in decisions about their transition to adult life. They should also be involved in discussions about the schools and colleges they would like to attend. Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans should reflect this important ambition. Local authorities, education providers and their partners should work together to help children and young people achieve successful long-term outcomes, such as getting a job or going into higher education, being able to make choices about their support and where they live, and making friends and participating in society. Raising aspirations is crucial if young people are to achieve these goals. The considerations are made to allow the correct provision to be made for the young persons future: Some pupils may lack the cognitive ability to make decisions about their future although this should not be the case with those with Aspergers syndrome, and the accessible method of communication for the pupil should be taken into consideration.
