ABSTRACT
Mastering an album of classical music program is rather a different process than for other genres, as the final mix normally addresses all issues including timbral settings, dynamic range, and image width. Compilation albums may require more processing to match tracks coming from various sources and recording venues as well as the different sizes of ensembles. Some classical compilations will be sourced from recordings made over many decades, and the quality of the recordings may vary dramatically. There are several well-written publications that focus on mastering for popular music. Classical music production, however, requires a different approach in the final stages based on a rather “hands off ” methodology.
