ABSTRACT
When it comes to the performance of law enforcement officers in the field, there is no one
so important as the first-line supervisor, who is undoubtedly critical to the delivery of
quality police services. While the acknowledgment of this fact is universal, first-line
supervisors who meet the demanding standards and expectations of this position are sui
generis, or in a class by themselves, a rare exception.
