ABSTRACT

Introduction The study of organizational behavior is a search for answers to perplexing questions

about human nature. What motivates people? How can the police manager make the best

use of the behavior patterns found within organizations? Recognizing the importance of

the human element in organizational behavior, this chapter develops a framework for

police managers that can help them understand their employees better, enable them to

determine the “whys” of past behavior patterns, and, possibly, allow them to predict,

change, and control behavior patterns.
