ABSTRACT

Past and present efforts to provide quality security education can best be described as limited. However, there are some encouraging signs. The first significant efforts in educating people for private security occurred in the late 1950s at Michigan State University, with the establishment of a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Security Administration within the School of Police Administration. The first degrees were awarded during the 1958-59 academic year. It is significant that Michigan State University was already a recognized leader in police education and the degree program was connected with that effort.
