ABSTRACT

At any given time, there are roughly two times as many people under probation and parole supervision as there are people incarcerated in the United States. As of December 31, 2012, approximately 2% of the adult population of the United States were under either probation or parole supervision (Glaze & Herberman, 2013). Although incarceration may be the cornerstone of American corrections, the majority of criminal offenders receive sentences to probation.
