Critical Incidents Whatever their size, every police and sheriff’s department will answer critical incident calls requiring rapid deployment of officers, equipment, and other emergency personnel. Some departments may answer such calls on a daily basis, others only sporadically. One thing is clear-there is no warning and action must be taken immediately and effectively. Such calls may range from locating lost children to handling a major disaster such as a storm or terrorist attack. Generally, these types of calls can be divided into the following three major categories.
