ABSTRACT
Sowing the Seeds of Unionism European-style unionism never caught on in the United States. As a matter of fact, labor unions were banned in this country until the mid-1930s. It took the economic upheaval of the Great Depression to change public policy concerning collective bargaining. The legalization of collective bargaining ushered in a new and very different era.
