ABSTRACT

Footwear impression evidence found at a crime scene is considered either two or three dimensional depending on the surface where the impression was deposited. A two-dimensional surface, such as tile or wood floors, will allow a transfer of the flat sole of an item of footwear, whereas a three-dimensional surface, such as dirt or snow, will allow a transfer of not only the sole but also the depth of the tread and the sides of the shoe source.
