ABSTRACT

Glass analysis is a form of trace evidence that can be recovered from a crime scene or from a suspect that can tie the individual to the scene and the victim. Glass evidence can assist the investigator with locating the source of the sample and includes glass found in windows, car windshields, bottles, headlights, light bulbs, and eye glasses. When glass is recovered at a crime scene, the source of the evidence can sometimes be identified easily simply by observing the main properties of glass and the shape of the sample. If the glass is found shattered at a scene in small cubes it can be reasonably assumed that the sample originated as tempered glass found in automobile side and rear windows.
