ABSTRACT

Trace evidence is a forensic science discipline, which mainly comprises hairs and fibers recovered from a crime scene but can also include glass and paint analysis, soil identification, and footwear comparisons. Hair analysis is the most common form of trace evidence recovered at a crime scene; however, hair as a forensic investigative tool cannot be identified to a single source or one specific individual. Comparison results can provide descriptive information regarding the length, color, and texture, but the information is generalized to a large portion of the population.
