ABSTRACT

At crime scenes, individuals will take pictures to document the scene. The photographs can be used later in the case to refresh the memory of the investigator or as demonstrative evidence to show the jury the relation between the victim and the evidence. In the past, police departments always used traditional photography, which included print film, negatives, and a darkroom for processing. According to the Scientific Working Group on Imaging Technology, digital photography can now be used, as long as the images and the camera abide by the national guidelines.
