ABSTRACT

This opening chapter affords us the opportunity to address two issues that are important to the topic of global warming and violence. The first is the challenge of global warming research in a hostile environment. This is important because research is at the core of the field, it is important research, and it is frequently misrepresented. We will discuss that misrepresentation, how and why research ismisrepresented, and provide some suggestions on how to recognizemisrepresented research. The second is a review of research focusing on what might be called the basic building

block of a book on global warming and crime-is there any research that actually shows that crime and violence are related to temperature or other aspects of weather?
