ABSTRACT

What is the future of criminal justice in our country? Of course, it is impossible to accurately predict what may occur in the future, but it is important to ponder the possibilities and prepare for them. In this last chapter, we will take the time to look forward. It should be clear that the criminal justice system is a massive, multifaceted, nonorganization of police, courts, and corrections across 50 states and the federal government. It affects literally millions of individuals in this country. Change is unlikely to be systemic or coordinated. On the other hand, we can identify trends and the possible directions that might be taken by the many different agencies that make up the system of criminal justice. In this final chapter, some thoughts are offered about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
