ABSTRACT

There is a growing body of information about community policing in the United States. In particular, studies about the implementation of community policing and its effectiveness in reducing crime and disorder have appeared with some regularity in the past few years. However, the success of community policing and the lessons learned from it mostly tell about community policing in larger cities. What has been overlooked in most research to date is the implementation of community policing in rural and small-town police agencies.
