ABSTRACT One of the most important duties of a police photographer is to document a crime scene. Crime scene photographs can be used not only to document the scene as found by police but also to help determine events leading up to, during, and after a crime. They may also aid in solving crimes and obtaining a conviction in court. One useful tool is perspective grid photography. Also known as photogrammetry, perspective grid photography allows measurements of a crime scene area to be measured using a camera. This chapter details the photographic steps to take to capture images dealing with individual crimes such as homicide, suicide, sex offenses, and arson and documenting injuries to victims and suspects.
