ABSTRACT
The AIDS epidemic has presented gay and bisexual men with a set of stressors of unprecedented magnitude. Relatively young men whose major life tasks should be settling into a career and evolving a satisfying personal life are instead facing the demands of debilitating illness, symptoms usually associated with aging, and death. In addition, this population is experiencing the death of a lifestyle and bereavement, often of large numbers of friends, acquaintances, and former lov ers. The demands of this multifaceted crisis evoke needs for coping that may also be unprecedented.
