ABSTRACT

One type of t test discussed in Chapter 8 was the paired t test. One type of study in which a paired t test would be used is when we have two scores for a single group on a single measure. For example, if we had a group of third-grade students and we gave them a test of their math abilities at the beginning of the school year and again at the end of the school year, we would have one group (third graders) with two scores on one measure (the math test). In this situation, we could also use a repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) to test whether students’ scores on the math test were different at the beginning and end of the academic year.
