ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces two real life construction projects as case studies for the implementation of Value Management (VM). The VM study was conducted as a means of assisting the project team and other stakeholders to take a step along the value improvement path for works relating to the rehabilitation of an old housing estate. The VM workshop followed a widely used structured procedure known as the VM Job Plan, which consists of information phase, analysis phase, creativity phase, evaluation phase, development phase, and presentation phase. The Action Plan represents a consolidation of the workshop outcomes and the return on investment in the VM Workshop will depend very much on the vigour with which the actions recommended in the plan are pursued. The process and the outcome of the VM workshop were beneficial to all stakeholders of the project in developing a common understanding of the project objectives and concerns by various parties.
