ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the types of traffic surveys that can be carried out in a building, describes the methodology of carrying them out, and lists the reasons for doing them. There are two main categories of lift traffic surveys: a group of surveys that are directly related to passengers; and a group of surveys that are directly related to the lift doors and the lift kinematics, but that has a direct impact on lift traffic performance. The chapter presents comprehensive systematic survey procedure for lobby surveys and in-car surveys. The aim of the lobby survey was to understand the arrival pattern at the lobby, obtain an estimate of down traffic from the building, and assess typical car loading. The aim of the in-car survey is to understand the interfloor traffic patterns. The chapter describes a demand assessment survey carried out in a new building after it had been occupied by the tenants.
